MULTI/JOINT® a solid bet for Philippines’ Okada Manila integrated resort

In February 2017, the casino resort and hotel complex Okada Manila,
officially opened its doors. Japanese business man Kazuo Okada, who
earned a big part of his fortune with the Japanese Pachinko machines,
obtained a license back in 2008 to run a casino in the Manila
Entertainment City. This prestigious gambling facility should compete
with casinos in Macau and should turn Manila into a regional and
international gambling destination.

Set in 45 hectares of picturesque
oceanfront, the Okada Manila is
one of the most iconic resorts of
Tiger Resort Leisure &
Entertainment, Inc. (TRLEI). The
hotel, consisting of 2 wings, each having 15
floors, is connected by two sky bridges and
features 993 hotel rooms, more than 3,000
electronic gambling machines and 500 table
games. In addition, the Okada Manila features
a dancing fountain comparable to the Bellagio
Fountains in Las Vegas, Asia’s first nightclub
and indoor beach club enclosed in a dome, a
high-end retail area, a world-class
3,000-square-meter spa facility and several
food and beverage outlets. A total of 8,000
staff has been hired to operate the resort.

A collaboration with GF
The construction of the Okada resort, a $ 2.4
billion project, required a total of 22,000
workers and took no less than 6 years. The
main contractor was TransAsia Construction
Development Corporation, where part of the
plumbing work of the project was outsourced to
Alpha Plumbing Works Inc. Not only did our
colleagues of GF Philippines maintain good
relations with Alpha Plumbing, they also
teamed up with engineering company
Meinhardt Philippines, responsible for the
design of the various piping networks of the
project. Of course a big and prestigious project
like this needs outstanding quality in
constructing and installation. This was where
the MULTI/JOINT® transition fittings of Georg
Fischer Waga N.V. came in!

Added value of MULTI/JOINT® 3000
More than 1,000 kilometers of Georg Fischer PPR
pipe were installed during the construction, both
in the hotel area, as well as in the huge
underground parking lot. With a resort this size,
pipe diameters of up to d500 were required to
provide sufficient water across the entire area.
Especially for the transition between PPR pipe
and PE100 pipe, the MULTI /JOINT ® 3000 Plus
couplers could prove their added value. The
installers were especially impressed by the ease
and speed of installation of MULTI/JOINT®. There
was no need for pipe grooving, as is the case with
alternative systems, and the positioning of the
pipes went very smoothly thanks to the big
insertion depth of the fittings and the large
degree of angularity that MULTI/JOINT® offers.

Above ground, yet underground
MULTI/JOINT® not only provided a fast and easy
connection of newly installed transitions from
PPR to PE100 pipe. Our fittings also came to the
rescue when a PE100 d450, installed against the
ceiling of the underground parking garage,
caused a serious leakage due to bad welding. A
DN450 MULTI/JOINT® coupler was the installer’s
best bet to repair the leak, and with success. The
water main could be repaired and taken back into
service quickly, limiting the loss of time on the
construction site.
GF pride and passion
Our products are usually found underground or
in secluded areas. However, they are very much
needed in order to keep hotels, like the Okada
Manila, up and running. With the GF fittings, a safe
and sound water line system was built and we
are proud that we were part of this!
